Local roof problems
The standard London Victorian terrace hides most of its flat roofing at the back: a closet-wing roof with two abutments, minimal fall and a parapet or valley gutter discharging through a hopper. These are the roofs most often patched by whoever was cheapest, and the ones where a properly detailed liquid system finally ends the cycle.
Thousands of London extensions were built with insulation between joists and no effective ventilation path. In cold weather the deck runs below dew point, moisture condenses, and the ceiling gets damp on days when it has not rained. Waterproofing that roof again will not fix it; the build-up has to change.

In detail
The most common thing we are asked to quote in London is a rear extension roof, either new, or a replacement of one that failed early. Done properly it is a designed build-up, not a covering: a sound deck, falls that actually deliver water to the outlet, insulation above the deck so the deck stays warm, a vapour control layer correctly positioned and sealed, and then a single-ply or reinforced liquid membrane carried up every upstand to adequate height and terminated mechanically. The rooflight kerb is formed as part of that system, not cut into it afterwards. Where the extension abuts the original house, the junction with brickwork is detailed with a proper termination rather than a bead of mastic. This is the difference between a roof that is invisible for 25 years and one that puts a stain on a new kitchen ceiling in its third winter.
